"Trust Yourself"

"Trust yourself" is a common phrase used by motivational gurus to motivate their audience. The idea that you are capable of a lot more things than you give yourself credit for. Supporters of this idea encourage people to be bold and occasionally take the leap of faith to accomplish something greater while non supporters believe this to be just over optimism that leads to miserable life. I'm a supporter of the idea but I do feel that the phrase requires further explanation as to why it's a logical phrase and not just an overly hype maxim.

Last year, I relocated near Santa Barbara California in search for a fresh start of my life. I had moved despite not knowing anyone in the city. I admit for most, this is a bold decision and I myself will say that this is a leap of faith. I had no clue how I would earn money to survive and I certainly didn't have any network
that could help me. All I have is a little savings and trust in myself.

Sure enough I tracked down the museum of the city and found out who the managers are. I noticed they had a planetarium and I've always had a hobby in astronomy so I realize this would be where I would have the maximum chances. Other employees are kind enough to point me to where his office is and so I walked in his office and asked for a job, that's it. 2 weeks later I'm officially the planetarium assistant.

You see, even though it sounds like wonderful stroke of luck, it actually isn't.
Before moving, I was confident of my ability to adapt to the environment. I am very confident in my communication skills that I knew if I just had an opportunity to talk to an employer then I can persuade him to give me a job. That's the essence of what trusting yourself means. You must know what you have and believe that it will work out. With this attitude it's impossible for you to fail.

The phrase is not just some hyped up proverb but its a simple truth. If you have the ability to trust yourself, you will believe that what you want will happen. This reduces your results into two outcome; you will get what you want or you will die trying. It's that simple. So it's important to remember to always "Trust Yourself".
